The New Voices exhibition series was created in 2000 by Mashiko, who curates each show.
The series was designed to promote emerging artists in the United States. Since 2004, international artists have also been invited to showcase their work. Each year, an average of eight artists participate and roughly six pieces of their work are included in the exibit.
