  • I was curious about the lives of the women in the photographs. I arranged them in a sequence of invented relationships and made drawings of things that might have been part of their lives. After researching 19th century women’s clothing I discovered the dress to be a many-layered affair, not the one-piece garment it is today. Women couldn’t get dressed by themselves and they must have had a terrible time with their corsets.
