The Art of the Chisholm Kid: PRINTS from the archives of The Museum of Uncut Funk
An exhibit in conjuntion with Women in Comics Collective and New Approach
Medialia Gallery is proud to host The Museum Of UnCut Funk as they reintroduce audiences to The Chisholm Kid. A touring exhibition of 22 full-color panels regales audiences with the heroics of The Chisholm Kid - Lone Fighter For Justice For All. Circa 1950, the Chisholm Kid was the first Black cowboy to ever appear in a comics strip, one of the early Black newspaper heroes. He pays homage to the 5,000 to 9,000 Black cowboys who drove cattle along the Chisholm Trail from Texas to Kansas after the Civil War.
The exhibition organizers would also like to thank Kings County Distillery for their sponsorship of this event.
