Learning various techniques in printmaking was one of my steps toward creating work in the book-art medium. In the mid 1960’s the commercial medium of silk-screen printing was breaking into the fine art field. I was very excited to learn the technique. All of my prints are of film-stencil hand-cut approach. As a stone and wood carver, stencil cutting was a familiar concept, because both are subtractive mediums. I learned dry-point and etching techniques at the same time but could not afford a press and chemical treatment set-up in my studio. I started pen and ink drawing to alternate to a crisp and detailed etched-like expression.
Some of the works in this exhibition have never been exhibited. It is also the first time I have organized all of my book-art to be exhibited in one space.
