A One-Person Exhibition of Recent Sculpture
With skillful articulation and honed technique, Tobias Canfield (b. 1983) uses his work to express the conflicts between personal identity and social preconceptions. Canfield graduated from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, in 2005, with a BA in sculpture. As a student, he studied metal casing, integrating materials, and carving both stone and wood. During his time as a student, he demonstrated a consistency in the conceptual direction of his work.
Canfield participated in the sixth and seventh annual New Ideas in Medallic Sculpture exhibitions, which traveled internationally and included the work of students from art institutions in Brazil, Portugal, and Russia. His medallic sculptures are in the permanent collections of the New Approach Contemporary Medallic Sculpture Collection and Research Center in New York, and the Saint-Petersburg State Artistic Industrial Academy in Russia. This is Canfield's first one-person exhibition at Medialia ... Rack and Hamper Gallery.
