Beginning in 1998, New Ideas in Medallic Sculpture has been an annual event at Medialia ... Rack and Hamper Gallery, New York, USA. New Approach, non-profit organization formed by Mashiko Nakashima, is the sponsor of the New Ideas exhibition. This year is the seventh annual exhibition. The mission of New Approach is to promote emerging artists, as well as to encourage public awareness and exposure to unconventional medallic art.
The New Ideas in Medallic Sculpture exhibitions are comprised of the work of young individuals studying art in the university setting. Some of these artists have extensive experience with medallic craft, while others are new to this artistic discipline. Diversity of work in the New Approach exhibitions reflects the range of formal artistic training within each participating university.
